Storytime
huddle around now children, I'm going to regale you with a story from my youth, a story filled with adventure and excitement. I had all but forgotten this until a few days ago, and now I'm going to pass on this story on to you, so that some day you might tell your children, and they might tell theirs, and then they can probably just forget about it, and I won't mind anyway, because I'll probably be old and senile by then.
I was still a young boy at the time, not old and wrinkled like you see me now, but youthful, and full of excitement and joy, rather than the bitter cynicism that comes with age.. It was a warm night, in the early weeks of summer, and I and my brothers were sleeping at my grandparents house on the banks of the hacking river. I had picked for myself the top bunk, as I was used to sleeping on the top bunk at my home in miranda, above my brother who often referred to me as "Luke" (being as that was and is my name). It had been a wonderful day, filled with fishing, playing with deadly octopi, swimming, and watching the grouper who had taken up residence in the baths just outside my grandparents house, and I readily embraced the warmth and comfort of the doona, and soon found myself asleep, and dreaming the things that young boys dream. Suddenly I woke, and time seemed to be much slower than usual, I felt as if my whole body were weightless, and I was able turn my head just quickly enough to see the chest of drawers that was beside the bed come rushing up towards me at an incredible speed. KaBlaM! the heavy thud of my head striking the corner of the chest of drawers filled the night, and within seconds my grandma was there to see if I was alright. I stumbled to my feet, slightly groggy after the impact with the chest of drawers and the floor, and crawled back on top of the bed, quickly falling asleep again as if nothing had happened at all.
Now in case you were wondering about the moral of the story, it is this...
Install bed rails... or sleep on the bottom bunk.
